Building Code Registered Person Design Activity: Errors and Omissions Insurance - Bill 124
Effective January 1st, 2006 significant changes have been made to the Ontario Building Code. As a result of these changes, designers, including engineers, architects technologists, and other designers, are required to pass new government exams and obtain Professional Liability coverage after January 1, 2006. MMR has developed a new product entitled “Building Code Registered Person Design Activity Errors and Omissions Insurance” that is specifically designed to mirror the requirements of the Ontario Building Code Act, Bill 124.
Municipalities monitor compliance with the new registration and insurance requirements through the building permit application process. When a building permit is required for a construction or renovation project, the building permit application must include the registration number of the design firm.
This allows the municipality to confirm that the design firm is registered in the appropriate class of design and carries the prescribed insurance. MMR's program is designed specifically to meets these requirements. Simply complete and submit the downloadable application for “Building Code Registered Person Design Activity Errors and Omissions Insurance”.
Please email the completed application form to jmacgregor@mmr.ca or telephone our office.
